Dr. Das is the National Coordinator for application of unsealed radioactive sources appointed by DAE to represent India in IAEA.
Apart from contributing 14 book chapters Dr. Das has more than 120 publications in national and international scientific journals to his credit and has delivered more than 90 invited talks. He has visited Universities in Japan under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) fellowships in 1989 and 1993.
Dr. Das was included as a member of the Scientific Committee of the 5th World Congress of Nuclear Medicine and Biology held at Montreal, Canada in 1990. He received the Dr. Vishwanath Misra Oration Award of Indian Medical Association in 1990. He was elected President of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India in 1991. The prestigious Vikram Sarabai Oration Award was bestowed upon him in 1992.
Dr. Das was invited as Chief Guest for the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of the Association of Afro-Asian Academicians at the University of Goettingen in 1994.
In 1995, he was awarded 'Ati Vishist Chikitsha Medal' and in 1997 'Ati Param Vishist Chikitsha Medal' by the Association of Chest Physicians of India.
In 1996, Dr. Das was awarded Fellowship of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the highest body in medical sciences of the country.
Dr. Das is a Founder Fellow of the Academy of Nuclear Medicine and Fellow of the Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists.
Dr. Das has been invited as Visiting Scientist to several universities in Germany and USA in 1994, 1997 and 1999.
During his tenure as Dean of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Das has contributed significantly in starting several postgraduate degree courses in super specialities in the institute. The first ever conference of Vice-Chancellors of the country in U.P. was held during his Deanship.
Dr. Das was appointed as Medical Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre at Delhi from 1995 to 1996. During this period, he has contributed significantly in the establishment of the institute and its various departments.
Apart from being member of Editorial Boards of three scientific journals, Dr. Das has been serving several universities and institutions like UPSC, DRDO, etc... in various capacities.
For his outstanding contributions in the field of Nuclear Medicine Dr. Das was conferred with the Life Time Achievement Award by the Society of Nuclear Medicine ,India during the 34th Annual Conference held in Kolkata in December 2002.
Dr. Das is married to Dr. Gauri Das, a specialist in Anaesthesiology and has been blessed with two sons, who are pursuing higher education in Medicine and Engineering.
